Abstract Carl Leland Horberg was a former geology professor at Augustana College. Horberg was born in Cambridge, Illinois, in 1910. He was the first student to graduate from the newly formed department of geology in 1932. He continued his education, receiving a doctorate from the University of Chicago, and also completed many important studies on the Mississippi Valley area.
